Lynden’s Children Bring Joy to The Basingstoke Variety Show

The Basingstoke Variety Show was a memorable day for the young dancers from Lynden, who put on a fantastic display of energy and teamwork. The event, which supports the Mayor’s Charity appeal, was full of fun and community spirit, and the children were thrilled to be a part of it. Despite the long hours of rehearsals, they kept their enthusiasm high and showed just how much they love to dance.

The Variety of Dance Performances

From the months of preparation to the final performance, the dedication of the children was clear. You can read more about how the Lynden Dance Squads prepared for The Basingstoke Variety Show here

Performing at such a prestigious event can be both thrilling and daunting, but the children from Lynden handled it all with grace and enthusiasm. Their hard work was evident in every routine, from the upbeat and fun-filled "Do You Love Me" routine to the sophisticated jazz number set to "Houdini." One of the crowd's favourites was the Scottish-themed routine, where the dancers glided around the stage in a tribute to traditional dance, bringing a smile to every face in the audience.

Despite a long day of rehearsals and a packed schedule, these young performers didn't let tiredness dampen their spirits. For many of the younger dancers, it was their first experience of a full day on stage, and yet they rose to the occasion with resilience and determination. Even as the hours wore on, they continued to shine, bringing excitement and joy to the stage.

Experiences like these are not just about learning dance steps—they’re about building resilience and composure. At one point during the show, a group of dancers were cued to the side of the stage several bars into the routine, much later than intended. Yet, these young performers remained composed and simply joined the rest of the group, seamlessly making it look like part of the choreography. In live theatre, just like in life, things sometimes go wrong, and these youngsters are not only learning stage skills but also invaluable life skills. Their ability to stay calm under pressure and adapt to unexpected situations is a reflection of the personal growth and resilience they’re developing through experiences like these, both on and off the stage.

Community Spirit at the Heart of the Event

The Basingstoke Variety Show was not just a night of entertainment but an event with a purpose—supporting the Mayor's Charity Appeal. Through their incredible performances, Lynden’s young dancers contributed to this important cause, showing how the arts can unite and uplift a community. It was an evening that celebrated not only talent but also the hard work and determination of these children. Their success on stage was a powerful reminder of how children’s dance classes can build resilience, confidence, and a sense of community.
